28/07/2006

Tourism constitutes 13.8% of the GDP of the Community of Valencia

The Ministry of Tourism has presented the results of the study IMPACTUR (on the Economic Impact of Tourism) carried out in collaboration with Exceltur. One of the conclusions of the study is that the contribution of tourism to the GDP of the Community of Valencia has gone from 12.9% in 2003 to 13.8% in 2005, almost one point more in only two years.

One of the conclusions of the IMPACTUR study is the contribution, by the tourist sector, of 12,017 million euros to the total GDP of the Community of Valencia, a growth of 22.6% from 2003 to 2005, moreover the figure of 13.8% presupposes that the tourist sector contributes more to the GDP of the Community of Valencia than Spanish tourism contributes to the whole of the national GDP, given that this is placed at 11%, according to sources in the Ministry of Tourism.

More Employment in the Tourist Sector

Another significant piece of information on the importance of the tourist sector for the Community of Valencia is that tourist activity in 2005 generated 14.1% of all employment meaning a total of 280,326 jobs.

In the field of the exportation of services of the Community of Valencia, tourist activities made up 69.3%, which supposes an expenditure of 8,633 million euros in goods and services made by Spanish tourists as much as by foreigners who travel to the Community of Valencia.

In relation to investment, the tourist sector contributes 4.2% of total investment in the Community of Valencia, which translates as 1,166 million euros in Gross Training Capital, which has a bearing on the provision of services for tourists.

Finally, the Ministry of Tourism has highlighted the fact that tourism represents 16.5% of all Taxes collected in Valencia, a percentage that translates as 2,672 million euros.
The IMPACTUR study enables us to know the impact of the tourist activities on the principle variables that make up the Valencian socio-economic system, as are the Gross Domestic Product, GDP, the generation of employment, investment and taxes.

Likewise, this study enables us to promote new lines of action, information systems and more complete indicators to continue advancing in the most accurate measuring of the tourist dynamics.
