TOURISM UPDATE

27/01/2010

A total of 43 tourist companies and organisations in the Region of Valencia are awarded the Q Tourist Quality seal at Fitur

At the latest edition of the Madrid International Travel Fair, FITUR 2010, the Institute of Spanish Tourist Quality (ICTE) awarded the Q Tourist Quality certificate to a total of 43 tourist companies and organisations in the Region of Valencia, at an event co-hosted by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Joan Mesquida, and the chairman of the ICTE, Miguel Mirones. These distinctions show the economic and technical support given by the Qualitur Section of the Regional Department of Tourism to promote quality in the Valencian tourist sector.

The tourist companies and organisations in the Region of Valencia that received this certificate included 11 hotels and holiday apartments, nine tourist information offices, six beaches, six restaurants, five rural accommodation establishments, three campsites, one travel agency, one tourist coach and one golf course. Breaking the figures down by province, 20 correspond to the province of Valencia, 11 to the province of Alicante, and 12 to Castellón. With these latest additions, the Region of Valencia now has a total of 259 tourist companies and organisations with the Q Tourist Quality certificate, the fifth highest number of any region in Spain. In terms of the different sectors, the Region of Valencia is the leading autonomous region in terms of the number of tourist information offices and campsites with this certificate, and the second for beaches and hotels and holiday apartments.

In 2009, the Valencian Regional Department of Tourism subsidised 50% of the implementation costs of 84 projects relating to the certification and renewal of quality and environmental management systems for companies and organisations in the Region of Valencia, in the different categories recognised by the Qualitur programme, including the Q Tourist Quality brand. 57% of the projects corresponded to companies or organisations striving to achieve the certificate awarded by the ICTE.
