TOURISM UPDATE
The tourist attractions in the Region of Valencia will reach the blind
The chief of Tourism of the Regional Government of Valencia, Milagrosa Martinez, has presented in Valencia the first tourist guide in Braille. It is edited by the Region, with the objective of informing the blind or people with visual deficiencies of the tourism attractions of the Region of Valencia.
Milagrosa Martinez pointed out that the guide's creation is part of the Accessible Tourism Plan initiatives, in tandem with the Regional Government of Social welfare. The objective is to "suit the Valencian tourist offer to the needs and requirements of the disabled."
The Accessible Tourism Plan takes into account various functions, from training and raising the awareness of the personnel working in the sector to awarding suitably adapted tourism establishments, not to mention promotion and commercialisation endeavours.
The chief of Tourism of the Regional Government of Valencia stated that this publication supports this operation, adding that, in a short time, meetings with tourist agents and specialised tour operators will be held: "With the objective of establishing and co-ordinating actions, I am asking that tourism be adapted to the needs of the disabled."
A thousand copies of The Official Tourism Guide in Braille of the Region of Valencia have been edited. The edition includes a CDRom with a file in audio mp3. The Firm TBS, which belongs to the ONCE foundation, is responsible for the product, and has a budget of 6,000 euros.
The guide, which will be available in the Tourist Info offices of tourist information in the Region of Valencia, includes information on every available tourist product; beaches, rural tourism, natural spaces, festivities, handcrafts, gastronomy, leisure offers, etc, as well as other data about four Valencian tourism venues: Costa Blanca, Benidorm, Valencia Terra I Mar and Castellón Costa Azahar.
Accesible Tourism Plan Projects
However, Milagrosa Martinez has expressed that within the Accessible Tourism Plan there are projects of how to start the accessibility in the web www.comunitatvalenciana.com and adapting the Tourist Info for the disabled.
Also, the Tourism Office of the Regional Government of Valencia is planning on developing a training program on the CDTs website in order to help tourist information informers, tourism inspectors, customer service teams and tour operators to become aware of and to access the tourism for the disabled data base.
